Truck owners under the aegis of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO) have identified poor truck scheduling, delays in empty-container returns and inadequate coordination among port operators as major causes of congestion at the Apapa and Tin Can Island ports in Lagos.
The association said addressing the challenges required coordination among cargo readiness, truck staging, call-up authorisation, terminal capacity, empty-container returns and port gate operations, rather than merely controlling the number of trucks accessing the ports.
